With over 25 years in volleyball, Lena is a respected presence in the sport. Putting the athlete first is at the center of Lena’s philosophy which is reflected in the accomplishments of the hundreds of athletes she has coached. Lena has coached and helped build many successful programs over the years, including Maui VBC, Ho’olokahi, Asics Rainbows, City Beach, Club Yahoo, Hala Kahiki VBC, California Juniors, American Flyers, Delta Valley and Sinjin Smith’s Volleyball Academy.
Lena studied at Long Beach State and received her B.S. degree in Pre-Medicine/Sports Medicine with a minor in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Secondary Education. In addition, Lena received her PA-C from Stanford and San Diego.
Lena played NCAA Division I volleyball at Long Beach State and was a setter and outside hitter and is among the All-Time Roster at Long Beach State.
Lena is a former player (beach and indoor) and has launched the college & Olympic careers of many notable stars from City Beach Volleyball Club (Santa Clara, Calif.), St. Francis High School girls’ volleyball program (Mountain View, Calif.), & Asics volleyball Club.
Lena played, graduated and coached at Long Beach State University. She helped players like Misty May win the D1 NCAA Championship in 1998. Misty is now a two time Olympic Gold Medalist in Beach volleyball.
Lena is a volunteer coach for the 2024 18 Black team.
She’s currently pursuing an additional PA degree in surgery.
